Bradezone

About

My name is Brad Garrett, my nickname is Brade, and this website is a reaction.

In recent times those of us who maintain personal blogs have been told that emotional honesty is anathema. What if a prospective employer finds your site and gets weirded out by your thoughts and feelings? This issue perhaps raises legitimate concerns, but ultimately I am a human being with the same triumphs and struggles as the rest of you. This website is my vehicle for sharing them.

Another philosophy that has gained popularity among bloggers is a narrowed focus. While this approach is applicable in many situations and in several of my favorite blogs, mine is holistic by design. Topics range from high philosophy to random stupidity, because I want this website to provide a veritable spectrum of info-tainment.

Bradezone has existed since early 2006. Prior to that I had a site called Couth System that lasted over five years. It too aimed to be a smorgasbord of mental discharge, but also featured other contributors. Their gradual exodus and the eventual obsolescence of the site’s underlying technology led to my temporary retirement from the web. But new times call for new blogs, and here we stand today.

Currently I am employed at Merge developing websites and web applications aplenty. Previously I was with BigBlueHat, where I primarily hacked on BlueInk CMS, an AJAX-driven content management experience. Before that I worked in the Web Technologies department of Bob Jones University after graduating with a B.S. in computer science. This graduation was achieved via the scenic route, for I had started my journey at Washington University in St. Louis then decided to enter the real world preemptively by working at a publishing company in Nashville for about five years.

I presently reside in Greenville, South Carolina, but I have been on the move my entire life, and that will likely continue. Born in Texas to a military family, I spent formative years in Alaska, Louisiana, and Germany. Our family finally settled in Tennessee during my high school years after my dad finished his time with the Army. This is also where most of my extended family lives, so I tend to root for Tennessee sports teams: Titans, Vols, Predators, and… maybe the Grizzlies too, I guess. But my first love is baseball. I played it growing up, and have been a die-hard Atlanta Braves fan since Dale Murphy toiled on last-place squads.

Pursuits that have interested me during my life include writing, drawing, video games, traveling, sports, 80’s-era Transformers, humor and philosophy. These and more receive coverage on this website, so without further ado I leave you to explore the “special world” of Bradezone.
